Jamshedpur: Zoya, the 16-year-old lioness at Tata Zoological Park, died on Wednesday. The African lioness was brought to Jamshedpur in 2012. She had been suffering from a congenital health condition for several years. Despite receiving continuous medical care, her condition gradually worsened and proved fatal.

Zoo Director's Statement

Zoo director Naseem Akhtar said Zoya's death was caused by a long-standing congenital ailment and advanced age. "She was our major attraction for the years," he stated.

Background of the Lioness

Zoya was part of a group of five African lions, comprising two males and three females, that arrived together in 2012. She is now the third female lioness to have died from the group.
