Manipur Police Arrest Two, Seize 1.4 kg Brown Sugar

In a significant operation near the India-Myanmar border, Manipur Police arrested two individuals and confiscated a substantial quantity of drugs during a routine inspection on Sunday. The incident took place near the Singngat police station in Churachandpur district.

Details of the Arrest

The suspects have been identified as K Pauchinsuan (57), a resident of Gouchinkhup Veng in New Lamka, Churachandpur, and Tuahmawi (42), hailing from Mata Mualtam village in the same district. According to police sources, the duo was intercepted during a routine checking procedure.

Seized Items

From their possession, law enforcement officials recovered 107 soap cases containing approximately 1.4 kilograms of brown sugar, a highly addictive narcotic substance. Additionally, a vehicle used in the alleged drug trafficking operation was also seized. The estimated value of the seized drugs is yet to be determined, but such quantities often command a high price in the illicit market.

Ongoing Investigation

The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Both accused are currently in custody and are being interrogated to uncover the broader network involved in drug smuggling along the porous border. Authorities suspect that the drugs were intended for distribution in various parts of the state and beyond.

This operation highlights the continued efforts of Manipur Police to curb the illegal drug trade in the region, particularly in areas close to international borders. The Singngat area has been a focus for such enforcement activities due to its proximity to Myanmar, a known source of narcotics.
