MUMBAI: An initiative called "Who is Hussain (Mumbai)" has started helping the city's "silent warriors" — the rickshaw drivers — with something they badly needed in the mercilessly hot weather. The team has just distributed 500 vacuum insulated steel bottles to autorickshaw drivers across the city, helping them stay hydrated while encouraging a shift away from single-use plastic bottles.
Supporting the City's Backbone
"Autorickshaw drivers work tirelessly in extreme weather conditions to keep the city moving. Through this initiative, we wanted not only to support them with something useful during the harsh summer, but also promote the use of reusable steel bottles instead of plastic, which is harmful to our environment," said Ali Akbar Razvi of "Who is Hussain Mumbai."
A Warm Reception
Razvi added that the initiative was met with appreciation and smiles from drivers across various locations, making the campaign a "memorable and meaningful experience for the volunteers as well." The drivers expressed gratitude for the thoughtful gesture, noting that the insulated bottles will help them carry cold water throughout the day, reducing their reliance on disposable plastic bottles that often litter the streets.
Environmental Impact
By distributing reusable steel bottles, the initiative aims to cut down on plastic waste generated by the thousands of rickshaw drivers in Mumbai. Each steel bottle replaces countless single-use plastic bottles, contributing to a cleaner environment. The vacuum insulation technology ensures that water remains cool for hours, providing relief from the intense heat.
