A tragic incident occurred at Juhu beach in Mumbai on Friday, where a 16-year-old boy drowned after venturing into the water despite warnings from his friends. The deceased has been identified as Sarfaraz Khan, a resident of Andheri East. According to the police, Sarfaraz did not know how to swim but continued moving into deeper waters, ignoring the pleas of his companions.
Details of the Incident
On Friday afternoon, Sarfaraz went to Juhu beach with his friends Mohammad Kaif Khan, Takalluf Khan, and Jawabul Khan. Around 4:30 PM, the group entered the water to play. None of the boys were swimmers. Despite repeated warnings from his friends, Sarfaraz ventured further into the sea. He was eventually pulled in by the strong tide.
Rescue Attempts
His friends tried to save him but were afraid to go deeper. They immediately alerted lifeguards and the police, who began a search operation. The first attempt to locate Sarfaraz was unsuccessful. Lifeguards made a second attempt and found him. He was rushed to Cooper Hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Police Action
The Santacruz Police were informed and recorded a case of accidental death. Sarfaraz's cousin, Farman Ali, was notified about the incident. The police revealed that Sarfaraz originally hailed from Uttar Pradesh.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of swimming in unguarded waters, especially for non-swimmers. Authorities urge beachgoers to exercise caution and heed warnings from lifeguards and friends.
