7 Killed in Vietnam Bus Crash on Mountain Road

A tragic bus accident in northern Vietnam on Saturday has claimed the lives of at least seven people. The vehicle, carrying a charity group, overturned on a treacherous mountainous road.

Details of the Fatal Accident

The incident occurred in Yen Bai province on the morning of December 27, 2025. According to the state-run Vietnam News Agency (VNA), the 29-seat bus was transporting 19 passengers when it met with disaster. The bus was travelling downhill on the mountain route when it flipped over and was severely crushed.

Hoang Anh Tuan, the chairman of Phinh Ho commune where the accident happened, provided crucial details to VNA. He confirmed that rescue teams had managed to pull 10 survivors from the mangled wreckage. However, as of 10:30 a.m. local time (0330 GMT), several individuals remained trapped inside the vehicle.

Massive Rescue Operation Underway

Emergency services launched a large-scale operation to save those trapped. Authorities deployed heavy cutting equipment to slice through the bus's metal frame and reach the victims. Chairman Tuan suggested that a preliminary assessment pointed to brake failure as the likely cause of the horrific crash.

The rescue effort saw a swift and coordinated response. Police, military units, local officials, and residents were all mobilised to the site to assist. Despite repeated attempts, calls to the authorities of Yen Bai province and Phinh Ho commune for further comment went unanswered in the immediate aftermath.

Investigation and Aftermath

While the focus remains on the rescue, authorities have announced that a formal investigation into the exact cause of the accident is ongoing. The bus was carrying members of a charity group, adding a layer of profound sorrow to the community tragedy. The accident highlights the dangers of travel on Vietnam's mountainous roads, especially for vehicles carrying groups.

The community of Phinh Ho and the wider Yen Bai region are now left to mourn the loss of life and support the injured survivors. This incident serves as a grim reminder of road safety challenges in the region.
