Nagpur: Vidarbha's two divisions presented contrasting narratives in this year's Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) results declared on Saturday. Amravati division improved its state ranking by two places to finish third, while Nagpur division (88.67%) remained stuck at eighth position for the third consecutive year, a worrying pattern of stagnation.
Amravati's Rise
Out of the nine divisions under the state education board, Amravati's ascent is the more striking story. The division improved its state ranking despite a marginal dip in its overall pass percentage to 90.92%. Girls outperformed boys by a significant margin, continuing a consistent trend across all five districts of the division. Buldhana district led within the division, pushing perennial frontrunner Washim to second place, while Amravati district finished last. Officials attribute the improved rankings to the state government's continuous efforts to enhance education quality through interventions such as teacher skill upgrades, introduction of digital classrooms, and a focus on conceptual clarity.
Science stream students across the division recorded the strongest performance, while the vocational stream lagged behind.
Nagpur's Stagnation
Nagpur division's performance continues to concern educators, finishing eighth among nine divisions, ahead of only Latur. Girls again outperformed boys by a wide margin. Within the division, Nagpur district led, while Gadchiroli recorded the lowest pass percentage. Officials have partly attributed the dip to stricter evaluation standards this year, noting that tighter assessment criteria more accurately reflect students' actual understanding.
Statewide Performance
Statewide, Konkan division retained the top position, followed by Pune in second. Amravati's jump from fifth to third was among the most significant upward movements in the rankings this year, in stark contrast with Nagpur's continued stagnation near the bottom of the table.
