A tragic accident in Kozhikode claimed the life of a 38-year-old man after an autorickshaw crashed while attempting to avoid a porcupine that suddenly crossed the road. The incident occurred at Thoneri on Sunday night, police confirmed on Monday.
Details of the Incident
The deceased has been identified as Rajileesh, a resident of Naripatta. He was traveling with his family in an autorickshaw returning from a wedding function when the accident took place near the Balavadi bus stop at Thoneri. According to police, a porcupine suddenly darted across the road, prompting the autorickshaw driver to swerve sharply to avoid hitting the animal. In the process, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and crash.
Injuries and Medical Response
Rajileesh, along with his wife and two children who were also in the autorickshaw, were rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Despite medical efforts, Rajileesh succumbed to his injuries. The condition of the other family members is not immediately known.
Investigation and Aftermath
Police have launched an investigation into the accident to determine the exact circumstances leading to the crash. Officials stated that the body was handed over to the relatives after a post-mortem examination was conducted. Authorities are also looking into whether any negligence on the part of the driver contributed to the incident.
