Bangladeshi national arrested in North 24 Parganas for infiltration

Kolkata police arrested an alleged Bangladeshi national, Shahidul Gazi, from Hingalganj in North 24 Parganas on Saturday on charges of illegal infiltration. The arrest was reported by Sanjib Chakraborty. In a related development, Joymal Abedin, a local Trinamool Congress (TMC) panchayat member, was detained for allegedly providing shelter to Gazi.

The arrest took place after a tip-off regarding the presence of an illegal immigrant in the area. Acting swiftly, the police apprehended Gazi from his hideout in Hingalganj. Preliminary investigations suggest that Gazi had been living in the region for some time without valid documents.

Further questioning of the accused is underway to ascertain the details of his entry into India and any possible network that facilitated his stay. The detention of the TMC panchayat member has raised political eyebrows, with opposition parties demanding a thorough probe into the matter.
