A dramatic crash on Route 80 east on the Hackensack River Bridge in New Jersey resulted in a BMW plunging into the river after striking a concrete barrier. The driver reportedly rescued himself and fled the scene on foot before being apprehended by authorities.

Crash Details and Response

The incident unfolded when a BMW and a Land Rover collided on the bridge. The BMW hit the concrete barrier and fell into the river below. The Hackensack Fire Department responded to the scene, discovering multiple damaged vehicles and the submerged BMW. The driver and passenger of the Land Rover sustained minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital, according to State Police. No other injuries were reported.

Driver Identified and Arrested

Police identified the BMW driver as 32-year-old Zorawar S Kohli of Englewood Cliffs. After the crash, Kohli fled on foot but was found hiding underneath a nearby train and arrested. He faces multiple charges, including fourth-degree obstruction, fourth-degree resisting arrest by flight, two counts of assault by auto, and several motor vehicle offenses. He was released pending a future court date.

Vehicle Recovery

The submerged BMW was later removed from the river by Brookside Towing. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
