Guwahati's New Riverside Marvel Attracts Thousands
The recently inaugurated Brahmaputra Riverfront – Sati Radhika Shaanti Udyan has rapidly emerged as the premier destination for recreation and social gatherings in Guwahati. Built with an investment of Rs 327 crore, this magnificent project stretches from Kachari Ghat to the DC Bungalow, offering residents a stunning waterfront experience that many are comparing to Mumbai's famous Marine Drive.
Morning Walks and Social Hub
Since its inauguration by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the riverfront has transformed into a bustling morning walk hotspot. The park sees hundreds of visitors daily who come to stroll along the Brahmaputra riverbank, breathe fresh air, and enjoy the expansive open spaces. The current free entry policy until April has significantly contributed to the massive footfall, causing heavy traffic around Uzanbazar even on weekdays.
The riverfront has evolved into a vibrant social center where people engage in various activities. Visitors can be seen jogging, exercising, practicing yoga, painting, or simply gathering in groups for conversations. Children enjoy dedicated play stations and art activities under parental supervision, while youth have embraced the space as their new favorite spot for relaxation and entertainment.
Civic Concerns Amid Popularity
Despite the overwhelming public response, concerns about maintaining the riverfront's beauty are growing. Local residents emphasize the need for better civic sense among visitors. Issues such as littering, insufficient dustbins, and limited security have already been raised by concerned citizens.
Amit Singh, a regular visitor, expressed his concern: "It is mandatory for people to maintain civic sense. The number of dustbins is very less here, so the authorities need to act in this regard." Many residents worry that the free entry policy might create challenges in maintaining the park's cleanliness and ensuring proper surveillance.
Hope for City's Future
Despite these challenges, the Sati Radhika Shaanti Udyan has generated significant optimism among Guwahati residents. Many believe the riverfront has the potential to boost local small businesses, enhance tourism, and bring renewed happiness to the city. The project represents a refreshing alternative to digital isolation, encouraging real-world social connections and community interaction.
The success of this ambitious project ultimately depends on visitors respecting the space and maintaining its cleanliness, ensuring that Guwahati's newest landmark remains a source of pride for years to come.
