Independent blogger and author Jennifer Zeng has accused China of spying on the delegation of US President Donald Trump during his two-day visit to Beijing last week. In a series of social media posts, Zeng alleged that China used disguised military personnel to monitor foreign dignitaries and technology executives accompanying the US delegation.
Allegations of Military Personnel at State Banquet
Zeng claimed that a server standing directly behind billionaire Elon Musk at a state banquet in Beijing was a highly decorated active-duty Chinese military officer. She shared an image of two female servers from the Chinese Communist Party's state banquet honoring Trump, asserting that photos of the same women in uniform were widely circulated on Chinese social media. In another post, Zeng alleged that one of the waitresses behind Musk was Major Cheng Cheng, an elite battalion commander who reportedly helped draft operational manuals for Chinese military ceremonies. Zeng further claimed that Cheng Cheng may have had a gun or something under her red dress.
TOI Unable to Verify Claims
Times of India could not independently verify these claims. This is not the first time Zeng has accused Beijing of espionage. In 2023, she alleged that the Chinese Communist Party played a role in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada, claiming China's purpose was to frame India and create discord between India and the West. The killing of Nijjar, a Canadian citizen, had triggered diplomatic tensions between New Delhi and Ottawa.
Context of Trump's Visit
Trump's visit to Beijing marked the first trip by a US president to China since November 2017, when the Republican leader, then serving his first term, visited the Asian nation.
