Cholan Tours has announced the launch of what it describes as India’s first organized women chauffeur driver service. This initiative marks a new offering by the destination management company, aimed at expanding tourism and travel services across South India.
Launch Event and Vision
As part of a larger vision to drive meaningful change in tourism, Venkatesan Dhattarayan, Regional Director (South), Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, launched the Women Chauffeur Service. This initiative aims to empower women professionals and promote a more inclusive tourism industry.
Service Details and Coverage
Cholan Tours said it will deploy professionally trained women chauffeurs on long-distance itineraries across Kerala and Tamil Nadu. These women drivers will manage end-to-end tour operations across destinations in the two states, handling transportation and accompanying visitors throughout their journeys. According to the company, the chauffeurs will oversee tour movements across urban centers, cultural circuits, and tourist destinations, with a focus on ensuring seamless travel experiences.
The program aims to create new opportunities for women in the tourism sector while expanding the role of women professionals in destination management and visitor services. The women undergo professional chauffeur development programs, including advanced driving techniques and highway protocols. The initiative also includes training in guest interaction, professional etiquette, and route familiarization across South India.
Career Development and Economic Impact
According to the company, this initiative is aimed at supporting long-term career development for women rather than short-term employment opportunities, while contributing to greater economic participation and financial independence. The introduction of women chauffeur services on long-distance tours is intended to offer travelers, including solo travelers, families, and women travelers, an additional travel option. The company added that the initiative aims to enhance comfort and convenience during extended journeys while providing a personalized hospitality experience.
Company Statement
“Women are the future of the travel industry. When women obtain financial independence through skilled careers, we see strength in families and communities. This project aims to redefine industry standards, lead by example, and bring about lasting change,” said Pandian Kumaravel, Managing Director and Founder of Cholan Tours.
With the launch of its women chauffeur service for tours, Cholan Tours has expanded its offerings in the tourism sector.
