Bridge Collapse in Patna Village Leaves Five Injured
A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday morning in Dallochak village under Saksohara police station in Barh subdivision of Patna, where a decade-old rural bridge collapsed, injuring five youths who were sitting on it at the time. The victims fell into a pit formed by the collapse and became trapped inside the debris.
Local residents quickly responded to the scene and initiated rescue operations using bamboo and wooden supports. They managed to pull the injured youths to safety. The victims were subsequently taken to government and private hospitals for medical treatment.
Police from Dial 112 arrived at the site after receiving information and have begun an investigation into the incident. One of the injured, Munchun Kumar, recounted that the bridge suddenly gave way while they were sitting on it. Another villager, Ram Kumar Paswan, reported that three of the injured are in serious condition, while two sustained minor injuries.
The bridge was constructed about a decade ago at the block level during the tenure of the then Andauli Darveshpura panchayat head, Devendra Mukhiya. The current mukhiya, Abhimanyu Kumar, stated that the bridge served as a vital link between two parts of the village, and its collapse has affected approximately 5,000 residents. He added that villagers are deeply concerned and have demanded the construction of a new bridge at the earliest.
This incident highlights the deteriorating state of rural infrastructure and the urgent need for maintenance and replacement of aging structures. The local administration is expected to assess the damage and take necessary steps to restore connectivity.
