Delhi to Get Rain from Sunday to Friday, Temperatures Below Normal

New Delhi: The city is likely to receive more spells of light showers from Sunday to Friday, accompanied by gusty winds exceeding 50 kmph. This weather pattern is expected to keep daytime temperatures below normal and prevent extreme heat.

Recent Temperature Trends

On Friday, the city experienced clear skies, yet temperatures remained below normal due to the impact of rain and hailstorms on Thursday. At the base station Safdarjung, the maximum temperature was recorded at 36.4 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal, compared to 39.9 degrees Celsius a day earlier. The minimum temperature stood at 22.8 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal.

IMD Forecast

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature may spike slightly but will fall again. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for rain and thunderstorms on Sunday and Monday. The forecast states: "The fall in maximum temperatures by two-three degrees during the next 24 hours, rise by about two degrees for subsequent 24 hours and fall by three-five degrees thereafter."

Expected Temperatures

On Saturday, the maximum temperature is expected to be between 38 and 40 degrees Celsius, before dropping again under the influence of another western disturbance. The daytime temperature on Sunday may range from 36 to 38 degrees Celsius, and on Monday, it may be between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius.

Air Quality Improvement

Meanwhile, the city's air quality has improved to moderate levels. The air quality index (AQI), on a scale of 0 to 500, was recorded at 120 on Friday, compared to 148 a day earlier. The early warning system stated: "The air quality is likely to be in the moderate category from May 2 to May 4. For the next six days, it is likely to be in the moderate to poor category."
