Hazaribag: Eight persons traveling in an e-rickshaw sustained injuries after the vehicle plunged into the Barwan river under Ichak police station limits of the district on Monday. Of them, two passengers remained in critical condition.
Accident Details
The e-rickshaw was traveling from Alounja village towards Ichak Bazaar when its driver lost control while allegedly trying to steer clear of a speeding SUV coming from the opposite direction. The incident occurred on a bridge that lacks a guard wall, according to eyewitnesses.
Rescue and Medical Response
Locals and the police rescued the passengers and shifted them to Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital in Hazaribag, said Gautam Kumar, the officer-in-charge of Ichak police station. Doctors at the hospital reported that two individuals suffered serious head and chest injuries and remain in critical condition, while treatment of the others is underway.
Eyewitnesses stated that the bridge lacks a guard wall, due to which the e-rickshaw veered off the bridge and fell into the river. The incident highlights safety concerns on local roads and infrastructure.
