Golden Palanquin Sent to Pakistan for Gurdwara Nankana Sahib

Amritsar: In a gesture of devotion, Dera Baba Darshan Singh Kulli Wale has sent a golden-coloured palanquin for installation at Gurdwara Sri Nankana Sahib in Pakistan, the birthplace of Guru Nanak Dev.

The fibre-reinforced palanquin was prepared by Baba Gurdev Singh Kulli Wale following a request from Mahesh Singh of Sindh, Pakistan, who sought its installation at the historic shrine for the benefit of devotees and pilgrims, said Gurjit Singh, son of Baba Gurdev Singh, on Thursday.

The palanquin was transported to Pakistan through the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari. Gurjit Singh said officials of the customs department and the Border Security Force (BSF) facilitated the completion of formalities before it was handed over to Pakistan Customs authorities.

Valued at Rs 2 lakh-Rs 2.5 lakh, the palanquin was formally handed over by SGPC member Bhupinder Singh Bhalwan, who is leading a Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) jatha currently visiting Pakistan. It was received by Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee president Ramesh Singh Arora and representatives associated with Mahesh Singh.

In November 2025, a gold-plated palanquin was also presented to Gurdwara Janam Asthan, Nankana Sahib, and carried as part of an international nagar kirtan organised in collaboration with the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee.

Sikh thinker Ravinder Singh welcomed the initiative, describing it as a symbol of Guru Nanak Dev's teachings of love, selfless service, unity and brotherhood.

"Such efforts strengthen religious and cultural ties while helping preserve the shared Sikh heritage of India and Pakistan," he said.
