Patna: The capital city and its adjoining districts witnessed spells of heavy rain and hailstorm on Wednesday, as forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This led to waterlogging in several parts of the city.
Waterlogging in Gandhi Maidan
Areas around Gandhi Maidan remained waterlogged after the storm. Visuals showed officials and workers draining out accumulated rainwater. Gusty winds of up to 60 kmph reportedly caused minor damage to temporary structures at several locations.
PMC Deploys Super Sucker Machines
To tackle waterlogging, the Patna Municipal Corporation deployed four super sucker machines inside Gandhi Maidan and one outside to ensure quick drainage of water.
IMD Forecast: Thunderstorms Till May 11
According to the IMD, the state will continue to witness thunderstorms, lightning, and rainfall, particularly in the north-west, north-central, north-east, and south-east regions till May 11. The weather activity is being driven by an active western disturbance and a cyclonic circulation affecting eastern India.
Districts such as West Champaran, East Champaran, and Sitamarhi are likely to receive heavy rainfall, while Patna remains prone to sudden squalls and localised showers. The prevailing conditions are expected to persist over the next 48 to 72 hours before gradually easing.
Temperature Outlook
Temperature levels are also set to rise in the coming days. Maximum temperatures are likely to range between 30°C and 38°C, while minimum temperatures are expected to be between 20°C and 26°C over the next week.
