Heavy Rains Disrupt Life in Rayalaseema, Roads Flooded

Continuous heavy rain over the past two days has severely disrupted normal life across the Rayalaseema region, with the combined Anantapuram and Kadapa districts bearing the brunt of the deluge. Flooded roads, overflowing streams, and traffic snarls were reported from multiple areas, raising concerns among residents and local authorities.

Impact in Sri Sathya Sai District

In Sri Sathya Sai district, heavy downpours in Penukonda and Chinna Kothapalli led to a sharp inflow into Dharmavaram lake. The main road at Tumparthi in Dharmavaram mandal was completely submerged, forcing officials to temporarily halt traffic on the busy Dharmavaram–Puttaparthi route. Commuters were stranded for hours before police reopened the stretch after water levels receded.

Situation in YSR Kadapa District

In YSR Kadapa district, intense rainfall lashed Muddanur mandal on Monday morning, causing streams and causeways to overflow and disrupting road connectivity. Traffic on the key Muddanur–Pulivendula road came to a complete halt after floodwaters inundated a ravine crossing.

The situation worsened near Pulleru bend, where bridge construction is underway. A temporary diversion road was washed away by the strong flow, leaving vehicles stranded on both sides for kilometres. Police confirmed that traffic towards Pulivendula will remain affected until water levels subside and restoration work is completed.

Authorities on Alert

Local authorities are monitoring the situation closely and have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel. Relief measures are being coordinated to assist stranded commuters and restore normalcy as soon as possible.
