A private bus overturned on the Pathankot-Mandi National Highway in Himachal Pradesh's Kangra district on Sunday after its driver reportedly suffered sudden chest pain, leaving 24 people injured, according to police.
Accident Details
The accident occurred around 11 am in the Nurpur sub-division when the bus was traveling from Chamba to Una. The driver was among those injured. Preliminary information suggests that the driver lost control of the vehicle after experiencing chest pain, causing the bus to overturn.
Rescue and Medical Response
Locals quickly rushed to the spot and assisted in rescuing the injured passengers. Four individuals, including the driver, sustained serious injuries and were referred to Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College at Tanda in Kangra. The remaining 20 injured passengers are undergoing treatment at Nurpur Civil Hospital.
The bus, a private vehicle, was carrying passengers from Chamba to Una when the incident occurred. Police are investigating the matter further. The driver's sudden health issue is believed to be the primary cause of the crash.
This accident highlights the risks associated with sudden medical emergencies while driving, especially on busy highways. Authorities have urged drivers to undergo regular health check-ups and to pull over if they feel unwell.
