Himalayan Black Bear Cub Rescued in Arunachal Pradesh, Sent for Rehabilitation
In a heartening wildlife rescue operation, a one-month-old Himalayan black bear cub was successfully rescued by the Deomali Forest Division in Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday, according to an official statement. The swift action highlights the ongoing efforts to protect endangered species in the region.
Discovery and Rescue Details
The rescue unfolded when Wanghon Lettey spotted the vulnerable cub near an agricultural field. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Pongpong Ruttum of Borduria village promptly reported the finding to forest department officials. The team from the Deomali Forest Division responded immediately, taking the cub into custody to ensure its safety.
Diwang Lowang, the range forest officer (RFO) of the Deomali Forest Division, confirmed the details on Sunday. He emphasized that the cub was provided with proper care and attention from the moment of rescue. The cub has since been handed over to veterinarian Dr. Panjit Basumatary at the Centre for Bear Rehabilitation and Conservation in Pakke Kessang for further rehabilitation and long-term care.
