A preliminary meeting is scheduled for May 2 in Hubballi to chart the roadmap for the next phase of the movement demanding that five major airports in Karnataka be named after eminent personalities from the state.
Meeting Details and Background
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, former Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation corporator Shivanand Muttanavar stated that the meeting will take place at 10:00 AM at the Hotel Cubix auditorium. He highlighted that the state government had already written to the Centre recommending names for the airports: Sangolli Rayanna for Hubballi Airport, Rani Chennamma for Belagavi, Rashtrakavi Kuvempu for Shivamogga, and Sri Jagajyothi Basaveshwara for Vijayapura during the Belagavi session. However, since no decision has been taken so far, the meeting has been called to exert pressure on the authorities.
Demand for Bangalore Airport Terminal
Alongside the five airports, the committee has strongly demanded that the second terminal of Bangalore airport be named after legendary Kannada actor Dr Rajkumar. Muttanavar added that Kannada film actors Saikumar and Ravi Shankar, as well as actress Rachita Ram, among others, will visit Hubballi to support the struggle. Prominent Kannada activists and pontiffs from various districts are expected to participate, and the next date of the struggle will be announced during the meeting.
Mallikarjun Savakar, Dyamanna Dongi, and others were present at the press conference.
