The son of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has made alarming claims about his father's detention conditions, stating the imprisoned leader has been held in solitary confinement in what he describes as a "death cell" for over six weeks without any proof of life.
Family's Desperate Plea for Intervention
Kasim Khan, Imran Khan's son, took to social media platform X to voice his concerns about his father's deteriorating situation. In an emotional post, he revealed that his father has now spent 845 days under arrest since his imprisonment began in August 2023.
"My father has been under arrest for 845 days. For the past six weeks, he has been kept in solitary confinement in a death cell with zero transparency," Kasim wrote. He emphasized that despite clear court orders permitting family visits, Imran Khan's sisters have been consistently denied access to the former prime minister.
The younger Khan described a complete communication blackout, stating there have been no phone calls, no meetings, and no proof of life available to the family. He and his brother have had no contact with their father during this period, raising serious concerns about Imran Khan's wellbeing.
Official Denials and Conflicting Claims
Pakistani authorities have strongly denied these allegations. The Adiala Jail administration issued statements confirming that Imran Khan remains incarcerated at their facility and is in good health. They specifically rejected speculation that the former cricket star turned politician had been moved to another location.
Adding to the official response, Pakistan Minister Khawaja Asif made surprising claims about Khan's treatment in custody, suggesting the imprisoned leader receives food "better than that served at five-star hotels." Officials have consistently dismissed concerns about Khan's health as "unfounded" and maintain that his condition is being properly monitored.
International Community Urged to Act
Kasim Khan has called for urgent international intervention, appealing to global human rights organizations and democratic voices worldwide to demand accountability from Pakistani authorities. His specific demands include:
- Immediate proof of life verification
- Enforcement of court-ordered family access
- An end to what he describes as "inhumane isolation"
- Release of Pakistan's "most popular political leader"
Kasim characterized the communication blackout as a deliberate attempt to conceal his father's condition rather than a legitimate security protocol. He insisted that Imran Khan is being held primarily for political reasons following his removal from office through a no-confidence vote in April 2022.
The former prime minister faces multiple legal cases, including corruption and terrorism charges, which his supporters claim are politically motivated. The ongoing situation has drawn significant attention to Pakistan's treatment of political prisoners and the transparency of its judicial processes.
