Indian Man Seeks Help After Brother Dies in US Crash

Murali Avala, an Indian national, has reached out to the community in the United States from his hospital bed after a tragic accident claimed the life of his brother, Purna Gopi Avala, and left other family members severely injured. The incident occurred while the family was traveling to White Sands National Park in New Mexico.

Details of the Accident

The accident took place when the family's vehicle was parked in the emergency lane with hazard lights activated as the two brothers were switching drivers. A pickup truck crashed into their vehicle, resulting in the death of Purna Gopi Avala, who had been living in the US for a decade as a non-resident Indian (NRI). Murali and their parents sustained grievous injuries.

Family's Heartbreaking Account

In a fundraiser post, Murali Avala shared the family's ordeal: "Purna came to the US in 2015 and went through a decade of immense sacrifice and struggle. He was incredibly hardworking and had finally reached a place where he could financially support our entire family. Our parents had just arrived from India three weeks ago, and we were actively planning Purna's marriage. In a single second, all of our dreams were destroyed. Purna was our sole financial provider."

Injuries and Medical Response

The father suffered a neck fracture, cracked ribs, and severe facial injuries, requiring an airlift to UNM Hospital in Albuquerque. The mother sustained a fractured hand and facial bone fractures. Murali, who had just completed his master's degree, underwent surgery for severe internal bleeding.

Financial Burden

"With Purna gone, our family is facing a crushing financial burden that we cannot overcome alone. Your donations will go directly toward emergency medical airlifts, major surgeries, intensive care, and Purna's funeral expenses," Murali wrote in the fundraiser, appealing for community assistance.

Fundraising Goal

The family set a goal of raising $100,000. As of Tuesday, $40,400 had been raised through the community's generous contributions.
