Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi landed in New Delhi on May 13, 2026, to participate in the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting. He was warmly received by Indian officials at the airport.
Bilateral Talks on Agenda
Araghchi is scheduled to hold wide-ranging bilateral discussions with his Indian counterpart, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. The talks are expected to focus primarily on the escalating crisis in West Asia, with both sides aiming to coordinate their positions on regional stability and security.
BRICS Platform for Dialogue
The BRICS meeting provides a crucial platform for dialogue among member nations, including Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and newly added members like Iran. India currently holds the BRICS chairship for 2026, and the foreign ministers' meeting is a key preparatory event for the upcoming BRICS summit.
India's Ministry of External Affairs official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal welcomed Araghchi on social media, stating, "A very warm welcome to Foreign Minister of Iran, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, on his arrival in New Delhi for the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting." The Iranian embassy in India also confirmed his arrival, highlighting the importance of the visit for strengthening bilateral ties.
The discussions are also likely to cover trade and energy cooperation, given Iran's strategic location and India's energy needs. Both countries have historically maintained close diplomatic and economic relations, and this meeting is expected to further enhance their partnership.
