Jharkhand Discom to Procure 100 MW Wind Power to Meet RPO Targets
Jharkhand Discom Procures 100 MW Wind Power for RPO

Ranchi: In a significant step to boost renewable energy, Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Ltd (JBVNL) has decided to procure 100 megawatts (MW) of wind power. This initiative aims to help the power distribution company fulfill its renewable purchase obligation (RPO) mandates set by the Jharkhand State Electricity Regulatory Commission.

RPO Framework and Wind Energy

Under the RPO framework, wind energy is a compulsory category for distribution companies (discoms) to meet, based on a specific percentage of their total energy consumption. JBVNL currently sources 300 MW of wind power through the Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd (SECI) and PTC India Ltd. The additional 100 MW will help the discom achieve its designated RPO targets, as stated by Sanjay Singh, general manager (commercial) of JBVNL.

Procurement Process

JBVNL intends to acquire the additional capacity through short-term or long-term supply contracts with qualified developers or power traders. According to the expression of interest (EOI), energy must originate from wind installations that reached their commercial operation date (COD) on or after March 31, 2024. This condition ensures that electricity fed into the state's grid comes from modern and recently developed infrastructure.

The procurement will be conducted via an e-tendering platform, culminating in a reverse e-auction to determine the most economical tariff. This transparent bidding process is designed to deliver affordable green power to Jharkhand's consumers while facilitating a transition from traditional energy sources, officials said.

Submission Details

Interested parties, including project developers and authorized traders, must submit proposals that include their corporate background, previous experience, and financial offers. All submissions should be directed to the official JBVNL email address by 5 pm on May 19.
