A government primary school in Kalaburagi district marked the start of the new academic year with a unique and festive welcome for its students. The Government Model Primary School in Honnakiranagi village near Kalaburagi organized a grand procession of 51 bullock carts to bring approximately 400 children to school on Monday, the first day of the academic year 2026-27.
Festive Atmosphere and Traditional Performances
The event was organized by the villagers of Honnakiranagi, who arranged the bullock carts and ensured a celebratory mood. Hundreds of locals gathered to witness the procession, which was accompanied by traditional performances including Dollu, Sanadi, Baja, and Bajantri. The air was filled with the sounds of drums and traditional instruments as the children made their way to school.
Grand Welcome and Feast
As the children entered the classrooms, teachers and villagers showered them with flower petals. The school served a special meal featuring holige, bajji, brinjal curry, rice, and sambar, which the children thoroughly enjoyed. The procession began at the Kanthi Basaveshwar Temple and covered a distance of about one kilometer, ending at the school premises.
Students Express Joy After Harsh Summer
The children, visibly in a festive mood, expressed their happiness at returning to school after the summer vacation. They noted that the summer had been extremely harsh with a heatwave, and they were relieved to be back, having felt bored at home. Meeting their friends again was a highlight of the day.
School Enrollment and Community Support
Headmaster Mallaiah Guttedar informed that the school has around 400 students despite the presence of a private school in the same village. He said that admissions in the government school are higher compared to the private institution, and more enrollments are currently underway. Parents were also invited to witness the reopening celebrations, highlighting strong community support for the school.
The primary school offers classes up to the eighth standard, and new admissions have already begun. The event showcased the village's commitment to education and the vibrant spirit of the local community.
