Kolkata Swelters at 35.4°C with 97% Humidity

Kolkata endured another scorching day as the maximum temperature soared to 35.4 degrees Celsius, with relative humidity hitting 97 percent, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC).

High Humidity Worsens Conditions

Moisture flowing in from the Bay of Bengal kept humidity levels extremely high, making conditions harsh for residents. While the maximum temperature may hover around 35 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, little relief is expected from the stifling humidity, even though rain and thunderstorms are likely to continue across south Bengal districts until at least Friday, said an RMC bulletin.

Thunderstorms and Lightning Reported

On Monday, thunderstorms and lightning struck parts of east and west Burdwan, Birbhum, Murshidabad, Nadia, South and North 24 Parganas, and East Midnapore. Most areas will experience sporadic thunderstorms and rain over the next three to four days. However, RMC weather scientist Sourish Bandyopadhyay noted, "The relief will be temporary due to high humidity."

Monsoon Progress

Conditions remain favorable for the southwest monsoon to advance into parts of Odisha, north Bengal, Sikkim, and the Northeast within two to three days, the RMC added.
