Kottayam roof collapse injures woman, two children

A woman and her two children sustained injuries after the roof of their house collapsed amid heavy rain and strong winds at Athirampuzha in Kottayam district in the early hours of Friday.

Incident Details

The tiled roof of Binoy Mathew's house at Kanjiram Kalayil, located near the MG University staff flat complex in the 11th ward of Athirampuzha grama panchayat, came crashing down with a loud noise around 12:30 am. Binoy's wife Tinu (35) and their children Abel (9) and Bryan (4) were injured in the incident and were admitted to a private hospital for treatment.

Escape from Injury

Another son, Alvi (12), and Binoy's mother, Aniyamma, were in a different room at the time of the collapse and escaped without any injuries. The portion of the roof that collapsed was above the area connecting the hall and a room, trapping those inside and preventing them from opening the door.
