Udupi: A tragic road accident on the Karkala-Padubidri State Highway near Nitte claimed the life of a man and left his daughter seriously injured on Friday. The incident occurred when a car, allegedly driven in a rash and negligent manner, collided with their motorcycle.
Victim Identified
The deceased has been identified as Naveen Chandra. According to police reports, the driver of the car was traveling from Karkala towards Nitte at high speed and on the extreme right side of the road, violating traffic norms. The car crashed into a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction, which was ridden by Naveen Chandra with his daughter Prerana as a pillion rider.
Injuries and Medical Response
Both victims were immediately rushed to a hospital in Karkala for treatment. However, Naveen Chandra succumbed to his severe injuries at the hospital. His daughter Prerana, who sustained injuries in the collision, has been admitted to a hospital in Manipal for further medical care. Her condition is reported to be serious but stable.
Legal Action
The Karkala Rural police have registered a case against the car driver under Sections 281, 125(a), 125(b), and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). These sections pertain to rash driving, endangering life, and causing death by negligence. An investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the accident.
Local residents have expressed concern over the frequent rash driving on this stretch of the highway, urging authorities to take strict action to prevent such incidents in the future.
