Myanmar, Swiss nationals arrested for illegal entry via Nepal

Two foreign nationals — a man from Myanmar and a woman from Switzerland — were arrested on Tuesday for illegally entering Bihar through the India-Nepal border at Raxaul in East Champaran district without valid travel documents.

Arrest at Maitri Bridge Check Post

Police said the duo was detained at the Maitri Bridge check post during a routine inspection by security agencies. After verification of their documents, they were taken into custody and questioned by personnel of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), police and immigration department officials.

Identification of the Accused

According to police, the arrested people were identified as Aung Naing of Myanmar and Junila Bak Shrestha of Switzerland.

Officials said the case was unusual as citizens of two different countries were apprehended together while attempting to enter Bihar through the sensitive border route.

Legal Proceedings

Haraiya police station SHO Krishna Paswan said both foreign nationals had been produced before a court in Motihari for further legal proceedings.

“Security agencies are investigating the motive behind their illegal entry into India,” he said.
