The much-awaited Navi Mumbai International Airport is set to begin international flight operations from July 15, marking a significant milestone in the region's aviation infrastructure. Several airlines have confirmed their plans to start services from the new airport, which is expected to ease congestion at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
Airlines to Start Operations
According to officials, major carriers including IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Air India have announced their schedules for international routes. Additionally, international airlines such as Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Singapore Airlines are also planning to commence operations from the new airport in the initial phase. The airport will initially handle flights to destinations in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Europe.
Decongesting Mumbai Airport
The Navi Mumbai airport is designed to handle up to 60 million passengers annually, significantly reducing the burden on Mumbai's existing airport, which has been operating beyond its capacity. The new airport features state-of-the-art facilities, including modern terminals, advanced baggage handling systems, and efficient ground transportation links.
Passengers can expect seamless connectivity via the proposed metro line and dedicated highway connections. The airport's location in Navi Mumbai will also boost economic development in the surrounding areas, creating job opportunities and attracting investments.
Phased Opening
The airport will open in phases, with the first phase handling around 10 million passengers per year. International operations will commence alongside domestic flights, which have been operational since earlier this year. The full completion of the airport is expected by 2030.
Authorities have assured that all safety and security protocols are in place. The airport has received necessary clearances from aviation regulators and is ready to welcome international travelers.
