Bengaluru: The new Yelahanka railway terminal is set to feature two-level platforms, marking a significant upgrade in the city's railway infrastructure. On Saturday, Minister of State for Railways V Somanna convened a meeting with senior officials from the South Western Railway (SWR) and the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) to review the ambitious project. The meeting focused on the design and implementation of the two-level platform system, which aims to enhance passenger convenience and streamline train operations.
Project Overview
The Yelahanka terminal is part of a broader initiative to decongest the existing railway stations in Bengaluru and accommodate the growing number of commuters. The two-level platform design will allow for separate arrival and departure levels, reducing crowding and improving efficiency. This innovative approach is expected to set a new standard for railway stations in the region.
Review Meeting Details
During the review, Minister Somanna emphasized the need for timely completion of the project and adherence to quality standards. He directed officials to expedite the planning process and ensure that all necessary approvals are obtained without delay. The SWR and GBA teams presented detailed blueprints, including provisions for escalators, elevators, and modern amenities for passengers.
The project is anticipated to benefit thousands of daily commuters, particularly those traveling to and from the northern suburbs of Bengaluru. The two-level platforms will also facilitate smoother movement of long-distance and suburban trains, reducing bottlenecks at peak hours.
Next Steps
Following the meeting, the SWR has been tasked with finalizing the engineering designs and cost estimates. The GBA will coordinate with local authorities to address land acquisition and environmental clearances. Construction is expected to begin within the next few months, with a target completion date set for 2028.
This development underscores the government's commitment to modernizing railway infrastructure in Bengaluru and improving the overall travel experience for passengers.
