Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government announced on Wednesday that it will establish a structured engagement mechanism to fast-track investment proposals from Singapore. The decision followed a meeting between Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Singapore's High Commissioner to India, Simon Wong, to discuss the implementation of bilateral projects in the state.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties
The meeting marked a significant step towards translating the commercial and technical potential between Odisha and Singapore into concrete outcomes. Chief Minister Majhi emphasized that Singapore's expertise in urban planning, clean energy, port management, and technology would greatly support the state's development ambitions. He noted that Odisha's recent growth momentum makes Singapore a natural partner in achieving the goals of 'Samruddha Odisha 2036' and 'Viksit Bharat 2047'.
Investment Climate and Support
Highlighting Odisha's favorable investment climate, the chief minister assured Singapore investors of full support, including a single-window clearance system and prompt decision-making on proposals. He reiterated the state's commitment to providing a hassle-free environment for businesses.
Previous Engagements and MoUs
Referring to Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam's visit to Odisha in January 2025, Majhi noted that it had strengthened bilateral cooperation. During that visit, eight Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed across five key state departments. Stressing the need for expediting their implementation, he proposed the structured engagement mechanism to ensure progress on these agreements and deepen partnerships. He also invited Singapore-based firms to explore opportunities in green energy, urban development, and skill development.
Skill Development Initiatives
The chief minister highlighted initiatives such as the 'Black Swan Summit' held in Odisha in February, aimed at skilling youth in fintech and insurtech sectors. He said collaboration with Singapore would further strengthen these efforts, creating more opportunities for the state's youth.
Singapore's Commitment
High Commissioner Simon Wong congratulated Chief Minister Majhi on the completion of two years of his government and reaffirmed Singapore's commitment to partnering with Odisha in its growth journey. He expressed optimism about the future of bilateral relations.
