Patna: Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Saturday directed officials to adhere to strict timelines and resolve bottlenecks delaying the Patna Metro Rail project, emphasizing the need to expedite work so that citizens can benefit from improved urban transportation.
Review of Key Infrastructure Projects
During a meeting to assess major infrastructure initiatives—including the Patna Metro, proposed Greenfield satellite townships, and the J P Ganga Path Samagra Udyan (Phase 1)—Choudhary stressed that township development is vital for planned urban growth and should proceed in a phased manner as scheduled.
Principal Secretary of the Urban Development and Housing Department, Vinay Kumar, presented the current status of projects and highlighted technical and operational challenges affecting metro work, including cost escalations and delays.
Satellite Townships and PRTS Proposal
The meeting also reviewed 11 proposed satellite townships aimed at accelerating urbanization, with discussions on legal procedures and implementation stages. Additionally, a proposal for a Personal Rapid Transit System (PRTS) to connect Patna airport with the metro network was discussed to enhance passenger mobility.
J P Ganga Path Project Progress
On the J P Ganga Path project, Road Construction Department Secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal informed that the 6-kilometer Phase 1 stretch from Digha to Sabhyata Dwar is likely to be completed by September 25, 2027. The project includes gardens, walkways, cycle tracks, playgrounds, a women’s market, and parking facilities.
Chief Minister Choudhary described the riverside development as a significant initiative and stressed timely execution with a focus on environmental sustainability and safe public access.
Site Inspection
Following the meeting, Choudhary inspected the project at Digha, LCT Ghat, and Bans Ghat, issuing directions to enhance beautification while ensuring safety. Senior officials, including Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit, were present during the inspection.
