Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vietnam President Nguyen Xuan Phuc have called for enhancing the role of the Global South in global governance structures. The leaders emphasized the need for inclusive multilateralism and greater representation of developing countries in international decision-making processes.
Key Discussions
During their meeting, Modi and Phuc reviewed the comprehensive strategic partnership between India and Vietnam. They discussed ways to deepen cooperation in defense, trade, and investment. Both leaders stressed the importance of a free and open Indo-Pacific region, underpinned by respect for sovereignty and international law.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties
The two sides agreed to boost collaboration in areas such as digital technology, renewable energy, and infrastructure development. They also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest, including the situation in the South China Sea and the need for peaceful resolution of disputes.
Phuc invited Indian companies to invest in Vietnam's growing economy, particularly in sectors like manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and information technology. Modi assured Vietnam of India's continued support in capacity building and human resource development.

Both leaders underscored the necessity of reforming global institutions to make them more representative and responsive to the needs of developing nations. They called for collective action to address challenges such as climate change, pandemics, and economic inequality.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to further strengthen the India-Vietnam strategic partnership and to work together for the benefit of the Global South.
