India's Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Vietnam on a three-day official visit aimed at bolstering defence cooperation between the two countries. The visit underscores the growing strategic partnership and shared security interests in the Indo-Pacific region.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties
Upon arrival, Singh was received by Vietnamese defence officials. He is scheduled to hold talks with his Vietnamese counterpart, General Phan Van Giang, and other senior leaders. The discussions will focus on enhancing defence collaboration, including joint exercises, capacity building, and technology sharing.
Key Areas of Cooperation
India and Vietnam have a comprehensive strategic partnership, with defence being a crucial pillar. Both nations have consistently supported each other's positions on regional issues. The visit is expected to result in several agreements to deepen military-to-military cooperation and promote peace and stability in the region.
Singh will also visit the Vietnam People's Navy and interact with Indian defence personnel. The trip includes a stop at the historic site of the Indian Army's contribution during the Vietnam War.
This visit comes amid increasing regional challenges, including maritime security concerns. India's Act East policy and Vietnam's independent foreign policy align well, making defence cooperation a key focus area.
