US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, accompanied by his wife Jeanette, visited the Taj Mahal in Agra and the Amber Fort in Jaipur on Monday. The couple expressed their admiration for the architectural marvels during their tour.
Taj Mahal Visit
Rubio wrote in the visitors' book at the Taj Mahal, 'Thank you for allowing us to visit one of the love treasures of the world.' The US diplomat and his wife spent nearly an hour exploring the 17th-century white marble mausoleum, which was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal.
Amber Fort Tour
The couple later traveled to Jaipur, where they visited the Amber Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its artistic Hindu-style elements. They were given a guided tour of the palace complex, including the Sheesh Mahal (Hall of Mirrors) and the Diwan-e-Khas (Hall of Private Audience).
Rubio's visit to these historic landmarks is part of his ongoing diplomatic tour of India, aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between the United States and India. The visit also highlights the cultural and historical connections shared by the two nations.
Local authorities in both Agra and Jaipur had made elaborate security arrangements for the visit. The US delegation was accompanied by senior Indian officials and security personnel throughout the tour.
