The search for a 10-year-old girl who went missing in the Barak river at Kanakpur in Silchar entered its fourth day on Monday, with rescue teams yet to find any trace of the child.
Details of the Missing Child
The missing girl, identified as Tania Begum, is the daughter of Jabir Hussain. The family, originally from Damchhara in Dima Hasao district, currently resides in a rented house on the banks of the Barak river in Kanakpur. According to family members and local residents, Tania had gone to bathe in the river on Friday afternoon. When she did not return, a search was initiated. Her sandals and a water bucket were later discovered on the riverbank, sparking fears that she may have been swept away by the strong current.
Rescue Operations Underway
Teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) launched a search operation soon after the incident. Despite extensive searches conducted over the past four days, the girl remains untraced. Officials stated that the search operation would continue until the missing girl is located.
Emotional Scenes at the Riverbank
Emotional scenes were witnessed along the riverbank as Tania's parents, relatives, and local residents waited anxiously for updates from the rescue teams. The family's anguish was palpable as hopes of finding the child remained alive despite the passage of time. The community has rallied together, offering support and prayers for the safe return of the young girl.
The Barak river, known for its strong currents during this season, poses significant challenges to rescue efforts. Authorities have deployed additional resources, including divers and boats, to intensify the search. Local fishermen have also volunteered to assist in the operation, combing the river and its surroundings for any signs of the missing child.
As the search continues, the family clings to hope, urging the authorities to leave no stone unturned. The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of river bathing, especially for children, and has prompted calls for greater awareness and safety measures in the area.
