The Indian Railways has requested the Telangana government to provide land for three major high-speed rail corridors, aiming to accelerate the development of bullet train projects in the state. According to railway officials, 93 kilometers of land is needed for the Hyderabad-Pune-Mumbai high-speed rail route, while 123 kilometers are required for the Hyderabad-Bengaluru and Hyderabad-Chennai corridors. Detailed project reports (DPRs) for these high-speed railway projects in Telangana have already been prepared.
High-Level Meeting on Bullet Train Corridors
Telangana Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao chaired a meeting with various department officials and railway representatives at the Secretariat on Friday to discuss the progress of the bullet train corridors. During the meeting, the Chief Secretary instructed officials to prepare proposals in collaboration with the state government and the Union Ministry of Railways. He emphasized the need for all departments to work in coordination for the project reports and implementation, and directed that necessary actions be taken regarding land acquisition, connectivity, infrastructure development, and other related issues.
Economic Growth and Development Potential
Ramakrishna Rao stated that the high-speed rail project connecting Hyderabad to major cities like Mumbai, Chennai, and Bengaluru could transform Telangana into an economic growth corridor. He highlighted that the project would serve as a fast transportation system, catering to the future needs of the public as well as boosting industrial, IT, and tourism sector development. Railway officials informed that the DPR for the Hyderabad-Pune-Mumbai high-speed rail route is ready.
Land Acquisition and Depot Requirements
Proposals have been prepared for approximately 671 kilometers of the high-speed rail network, with land acquisition needed for about 93 kilometers within Telangana for the Hyderabad-Pune-Mumbai corridor. Similarly, land acquisition is required for approximately 123 kilometers for the Hyderabad-Bengaluru and Hyderabad-Chennai corridors. Additionally, railway authorities have requested land for railway depots in the Kokapet and Shamshabad areas. The Chief Secretary asked the Roads and Buildings Department, HMDA, and GMR airport officials to coordinate with central railway project officials to support the high-speed rail project.
