Three criminals arrested in Jaunpur encounters, shot in legs

In three separate encounters carried out by the Kotwali, Barsathi-Rampur, and Mirganj-Pawara police teams in Jaunpur district on Thursday morning, three criminals were arrested after sustaining bullet injuries in their legs. The arrested individuals have multiple cases registered against them, including loot, theft, and murder, at various police stations.

First Encounter: Kotwali Police Action

According to Jaunpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Kunwar Anupam Singh, the Kotwali police were conducting night patrolling near Begumganj Chungi when informers alerted them about the movement of a criminal on the Katghara-Tutipur pontoon bridge road. The police cordoned off the road and began checking passersby. When the police team signaled a motorcyclist to stop, the rider attempted to escape by taking a U-turn but fell on the road. Subsequently, he opened fire on the police team. In retaliatory firing, the criminal suffered a bullet injury in his leg. The police recovered a country-made pistol, cartridges, Rs 540 in cash, a motorcycle, and a mobile phone from him before rushing him to the hospital. The accused was identified as Nafees. During interrogation, he confessed to his involvement in multiple cases of theft, robbery, and contract killings.

Second Encounter: Barsathi-Rampur Police Operation

A joint team of the Barsathi and Rampur police stations also succeeded in arresting a robber identified as Rustam following an exchange of fire on the Mahmoodpur Bairi Patti-Rasoolha Alamganj Road. Although his accomplice managed to escape, the police recovered a country-made pistol, cartridges, and a motorcycle from Rustam. He was later taken to the hospital for treatment. During questioning, he confessed to his involvement in several loot and robbery cases.

Third Encounter: Mirganj-Pavara Police Action

A joint team of the Mirganj and Pavara police stations nabbed a criminal named Mohammad Umar following an encounter near Chitawn. The police recovered a pistol, cartridges, and a motorcycle from his possession.
