Three Drown in Dam Canal During Wedding in Jhansi

Jhansi: A joyous wedding celebration turned into a devastating tragedy in Talbehat on Thursday when three people drowned and two were rescued after five members of a marriage party were swept away in a Rajghat Dam canal while attempting to save one another. The incident occurred near Harshpur village, where a marriage party from Chanderi in Madhya Pradesh had arrived on Wednesday.

Sequence of Events

A group of men was walking along the canal when one individual entered the water to bathe and slipped. In a desperate attempt to rescue him, others jumped in one by one, resulting in all five being swept away by the strong current. As the men struggled against the water, other members of the party raised an alarm, prompting immediate action from nearby villagers.

Rescue and Recovery

Villagers managed to pull two men out of the canal. Police and divers soon joined the rescue operation and recovered the remaining three individuals. All five were rushed to a Community Health Centre (CHC), where doctors pronounced three of them dead upon arrival. Talbehat Circle Officer Ashish Mishra identified the deceased as Dharmendra Vishwakarma, 27, and Mithun Vishwakarma, 32, both from Chanderi, and Dhiraj, 24, from the Barr area of Lalitpur. One of the injured, Jagdish, 38, from Harshpur village, is reported to be in critical condition.
