Tirunelveli: The Tirunelveli district experienced heavy rainfall across various parts over the past 24 hours, leading to a gradual increase in inflow in hilly areas and dam catchment regions. The overall average rainfall in the district stood at 20.64 mm, with the highest recorded at Oothu, which received 65 mm of precipitation. Other notable rainfall measurements include Moolaikaraipatti with 60 mm and Nalumukku with 58 mm.
Dam Levels and Discharge
The Papanasam dam, which has a total capacity of 143 feet, was recorded at 43.65 feet. It received an inflow of 26.85 cusecs, while 100 cusecs were being discharged. The Servalar dam, with a capacity of 156 feet, stood at 57.09 feet. Meanwhile, the Manimuthar dam, with a capacity of 118 feet, was at 76.08 feet, with an inflow of 58.81 cusecs. From the Manimuthar dam, 45 cusecs were discharged through the Perungal canal and 300 cusecs through the river.
Rainfall in Tenkasi District
In the neighboring Tenkasi district, the highest rainfall as of Thursday was recorded in Sengottai, which received 84 mm. Karuppanadi recorded 46 mm, and Tenkasi city received 31.5 mm. The lowest rainfall in the district was in Sivagiri, which recorded only 2 mm.
The widespread rainfall across both districts is expected to reduce the summer heat and help raise groundwater levels, providing relief to the region.
