Two Girls Drown in Pond While Grazing Goats in Kaushambi

Prayagraj: Two minor girls drowned in a pond in Kaushambi district on Friday morning while grazing goats near their village, police said.

Victims Identified

The victims were identified as Sanjana Devi (12), daughter of Rajesh Kumar, and Ragini Devi (11), daughter of Rakesh Kumar. The two girls, who were neighbours, had gone to graze goats in Sarifpur village under the Manjhanpur police station area.

Accidental Drowning

Police said the girls were near a pond located about 500 metres from the village when they accidentally slipped into the water and drowned.

Search and Recovery

After receiving information about the incident, a team from Manjhanpur police station, along with local swimmers, rushed to the spot and launched a search operation. The bodies were later recovered from the pond and taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

The police have registered a case and are investigating the incident. The bodies have been handed over to the families after post-mortem.
