Ghaziabad: Two young men lost their lives, and three others sustained injuries after the Maruti Swift car they were traveling in collided with a divider on National Highway 58 (NH-58) under the Modinagar police station jurisdiction early Thursday morning. The incident occurred around 5:30 am, with police receiving a distress call via Dial 112 from a passing commuter at 5:40 am.
Victims and Injured Identified
The deceased have been identified as Ankit Kumar, a resident of Loni in Ghaziabad, and Aadesh Kumar, a resident of Kunda in Meerut. The injured individuals are Kuldeep, Adesh Pal, and Himanshu, all residents of Meerut.
Details of the Accident
Bhaskar Verma, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of Modinagar, provided details of the tragic event. He stated that the Maruti Swift, bearing registration number UP15DJ1685, was traveling towards Meerut when it met with an accident near Pillar Number 1196, in front of the State Employees Insurance Commission Office, Modinagar. Upon receiving the alert, police personnel promptly arrived at the scene.
The vehicle was severely damaged, and four occupants were found drenched in blood inside the car. A fifth person had managed to exit the vehicle and was standing nearby in an injured condition. All five were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention, where two succumbed to their injuries. The remaining three are currently undergoing treatment.
Cause of the Crash
Initial investigations suggest that the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel. Due to high speed, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which collided with the divider. Following the impact, the car overturned multiple times on the road before coming to a stop.
The damaged vehicle was subsequently removed from the roadway and placed on the roadside. Preliminary inquiries indicate that the victims were returning to their homes in Meerut from Ghaziabad at the time of the accident. Authorities are now reviewing CCTV footage from the area to reconstruct the sequence of events. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the crash.
