Two Nagaland youths drown in Cauvery near Koppa Bridge

Madikeri: Two young men from Nagaland drowned in the River Cauvery near the Koppa Bridge, which is located on the border of Kodagu district, late on Wednesday evening. Local police and rescue teams managed to retrieve the body of one of the victims on Thursday, while the search operation for the other is scheduled to resume on Friday.

The body of B Kun Chang, aged 23, was recovered by the rescue team on Thursday evening. The search continues for the missing individual, Yankang, also 23 years old. Both were natives of Nagaland and were employed at a private hotel in Kushalnagar.

According to police sources, the incident occurred when the two, accompanied by their friend Achi, visited the riverbank near the bridge on Wednesday evening. While Achi remained seated on the riverbank, Chang and Yankang entered the water for a swim. However, they were caught in an undercurrent and began to drown.

The Kushalnagar Town police station was alerted, and a search operation was carried out until late evening on Wednesday. It resumed on Thursday, and the body of one victim was retrieved by rescue volunteer MB Muneer, an auto driver in Kushalnagar. However, due to poor visibility, the operations will continue on Friday.

The search operation is being conducted under the guidance of Kushalnagar CI Pradeep Kumar by Kushalnagar police personnel, along with assistance from several local volunteers.
