Sindhi activists based in the United Kingdom have strongly condemned the Pakistani government for what they describe as systematic repression and enforced disappearances across the Sindh province. In a series of protests and statements, the activists have called for immediate international intervention to address the human rights violations allegedly committed by Pakistani authorities.
Allegations of Repression and Enforced Disappearances
The activists allege that the Pakistani state has been targeting Sindhi political activists, journalists, and ordinary citizens through arbitrary arrests, torture, and enforced disappearances. They claim that these actions are part of a broader strategy to suppress the Sindhi identity and political aspirations. The UK-based Sindhi community has organized demonstrations outside the Pakistani High Commission in London, demanding accountability and an end to what they term as state-sponsored terrorism.
International Response and Demands
The activists have urged the United Nations and other international bodies to investigate the situation in Sindh. They have also called on the British government to raise the issue with Pakistani authorities. A spokesperson for the group stated, 'The international community cannot remain silent while the people of Sindh suffer under a brutal regime. We demand immediate action to stop the enforced disappearances and ensure justice for the victims.'
The Pakistani government has yet to respond to these allegations. However, human rights organizations have documented numerous cases of enforced disappearances in Sindh in recent years, with victims often being held in secret detention centers. The activists' condemnation adds to growing international pressure on Pakistan to address human rights concerns in the region.
