The Uttar Pradesh government is prioritizing smart farming, modern technology, and market-oriented policies to enhance farm incomes and strengthen the state's agriculture sector, a senior government official stated on Sunday.
Vision 2047: Global Agriculture Hub
The government has set an ambitious target to transform Uttar Pradesh into a global center for sustainable, high-value, and export-oriented agriculture by 2047. Officials revealed that the plan encompasses increasing production of food grains, pulses, and oilseeds, expanding organic farming, and minimizing post-harvest losses.
Current Agricultural Standing
According to government data, Uttar Pradesh currently leads the nation in the production of food grains, wheat, potatoes, sugarcane, vegetables, and honey. The state has also climbed to the second position nationally in agricultural Gross Value Added (GVA), which stands at approximately Rs 4.66 lakh crore.
Growth Indicators (2017-2025)
Officials highlighted significant growth in various agricultural indicators between 2017 and 2025. Wheat production increased by 16%, food grain production by 17%, oilseed production by 34%, and pulse production by 26% during this period.
Key Focus Areas
The state government is emphasizing crop diversification, expansion of irrigation facilities, and export-oriented farming. Micro-irrigation systems are being promoted to improve water-use efficiency. Government figures indicate that the irrigated area in the state increased by 33%, and the area under oilseed cultivation also recorded substantial growth.
These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to make Uttar Pradesh's agriculture sector more resilient, profitable, and globally competitive, ensuring sustainable development and enhanced livelihoods for farmers.
