The Uttar Pradesh government has initiated a consultative process by seeking feedback from various departments on projects planned under the proposed UP State Capital Region (UPSCR). This ambitious initiative aims to integrate six districts, including Lucknow, for holistic regional development.
Meeting and Key Directions
The directions were issued during a meeting chaired by Chief Secretary SP Goyal at Lok Bhawan on Wednesday. Senior officials from multiple departments attended the meeting to discuss the roadmap for the UPSCR.
Geographical Scope and Planning
Lucknow Development Authority Vice-Chairman Prathamesh Kumar stated that the proposed region will encompass Lucknow, Sitapur, Unnao, Hardoi, Barabanki, and Raebareli, covering an area of nearly 26,000 square kilometers. A GIS-based regional master plan is being prepared to guide the development of this vast region.
Identified Projects
A total of 29 projects have been identified across key sectors such as transport, infrastructure, economy, and tourism. Major proposals include:
- Rajya Rajdhani Mala: A regional road network to enhance connectivity among the six districts.
- Elevated Peripheral Road: To ease traffic congestion and improve intra-regional movement.
- Road Upgradation Works: Upgrading existing roads to better connect the districts.
- Transportnagar: A dedicated transport hub to streamline logistics and passenger movement.
- Orbital Rail Corridor: A circular rail network to facilitate mass transit.
- Metro Network: Expansion of metro services to cover key areas within the region.
Economic Boost Initiatives
To stimulate economic activity, projects related to industrial development, logistics parks, food parks, and corridor-based development along the Lucknow-Kanpur expressway have been identified. These initiatives aim to attract investment and generate employment.
Next Steps
During the meeting, the Chief Secretary directed all concerned departments to submit their views and suggestions on the proposed projects. This feedback will be used to prepare detailed implementation plans, ensuring that the UPSCR project moves forward with a comprehensive and collaborative approach.
