Woman Injured in Wild Elephant Attack in Karnataka Coffee Estate
A woman was injured after being attacked by a wild elephant while working in a coffee plantation in Mudigere, Karnataka, on Monday evening. The incident occurred in the G Hosahalli area, where the victim, identified as Guruvamma, was working in an estate when the elephant suddenly charged at her.
Escape and Medical Treatment
Despite the terrifying encounter, Guruvamma managed to escape from the elephant but sustained injuries in the process. She was immediately rushed to the Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences in Hassan for treatment. Medical officials have confirmed that she is now out of danger and is undergoing care at the facility.
According to Deputy Conservator of Forests Ramesh Babu, the attack is part of a larger issue involving two elephants that have separated from their herd. These elephants have been roaming around the Belur region, causing significant problems for local villagers and posing a threat to human safety and property.
Separate Incident: Tusker Damages Autorickshaw
In a related incident, a tusker damaged an autorickshaw in Hassan's Belur taluk. The event was reported from Kuppagodu village, where Krishnappa had parked his vehicle near his house. The elephant charged at the autorickshaw soon after crackers were burst in an attempt to drive it away.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported in this incident. Forest department personnel successfully managed to drive the elephant back into the forest, preventing further damage or harm.

These incidents highlight the ongoing human-wildlife conflict in the region, particularly in areas like Mudigere and Belur where elephants frequently stray into human settlements. The forest department is actively monitoring the situation and taking measures to mitigate risks, but challenges persist due to the elephants' separation from their herd and their unpredictable behavior.
