Amreli turned into the coldest place in Gujarat for the second time this winter season. The mercury dipped to 9.6 degrees Celsius there on Sunday night. This reading made Amreli the only weather station in the state to record a temperature below 10°C.

Warmer Nights Across Gujarat

Most towns and cities experienced slightly warmer nights compared to previous days. Data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) highlights this trend. Bhuj recorded the sharpest temperature departure. The minimum temperature settled at 15.6 degrees Celsius in Bhuj, which is 4.8 degrees above normal.

Naliya Records Higher Minimum

Naliya in Kutch usually holds the title of the coldest place in Gujarat. Interestingly, it reported a relatively higher minimum temperature of 11.2°C on Sunday night. This was 1.7 degrees above the normal level for this time of year.

Other parts of Gujarat also witnessed warmer nighttime conditions. Here are the minimum temperatures and their deviations from normal:

  • Ahmedabad: 14.1°C (2.2 degrees above normal)
  • Gandhinagar: 13.5°C (2.3 degrees above normal)
  • Deesa: 12.3°C (2.8 degrees above normal)
  • Bhavnagar: 16.6°C (2.9 degrees above normal)
  • Surat: 15.2°C (0.5 degrees above normal)

IMD's Official Statement

The India Meteorological Department provided a clear summary of the situation. "Minimum temperatures were above normal to appreciably above normal in parts over North Gujarat region and Kutch," the IMD stated. "They were above normal in parts over Saurashtra and South Gujarat region." This confirms the widespread pattern of warmer nights across the state.
